Resilience: An Update
نویسنده
چکیده
The scientific study of resilience is a relatively new area of investigation, which began with questions about why some at-risk children and youth somehow defy the odds and thrive (Garmezy, Masten & Tellegen, 1984; Luthar, Cicchetti & Becker, 2000; Rutter, 2013). More recently, resilience research has expanded its focus to include survivors of stress and trauma across the lifespan (Southwick, Litz, Charney & Friedman, 2011) In fact, currently the field of traumatic stress is experiencing a paradigm shift of sorts, where researchers and clinicians have begun to focus on ways to assess and foster strengths and personal growth in the face of trauma and life adversity, in addition to treating trauma-related psychopathology.

Byzantine-Tolerant Machine Learning
The growth of data, the need for scalability and the complexity of models used in modern machine learning calls for distributed implementations. Yet, as of today, distributed machine learning frameworks have largely ignored the possibility of arbitrary (i.e., Byzantine) failures. In this paper, we study the robustness to Byzantine failures at the fundamental level of stochastic gradient descent...
متن کاملNear-linear time, Leakage-resilient Key Evolution Schemes from Expander Graphs
We develop new schemes for deterministically updating a stored cryptographic key that provide security against an internal adversary who can control the update computation and leak bounded amounts of information to the outside world. Our schemes are much more efficient than the previous schemes for this model, due to Dziembowski, Kazana and Wichs (CRYPTO 2011). Specifically, our update operatio...
متن کاملToward Exascale Resilience: 2014 Update
Resilience is a major roadblock for HPC executions on future exascale systems. These systems will typically gather millions of CPU cores running up to a billion threads. Projections from current large systems and technology evolution predict errors will happen in exascale systems many times per day. These errors will propagate and generate various kinds of malfunctions, from simple process cras...
متن کاملSelenium compounds for fish health: An update
Oxidative stress has become an important subject for terrestrial and aquatic toxicology. The trace element selenium has been demonstrated in chemo-prevention and drug-resistance through reduction of oxidative stress. Selenium compounds could prevent damage to the unsaturated fatty acid of subcellular membranes by lipid peroxidation induced by free radicals in fish.
